Avon Blanchard Tavern

Avon Massachusetts, 02322

The town of Avon is located in Norfolk County, 17 miles south of Boston, and 27 miles northeast of Providence, RI. It has the smallest land area and population of any community in the region. Its population is approximately 4,500 in a total area of 4.6 sq. miles.

Avon’s combination of good highway access and a positive attitude toward economic growth and development in the community has enabled the town to develop as a major employment center in the South Shore area. The Avon Industrial Park’s location is proximate to Route 24 and has developed to contain 127 firms who employ over 3,600 persons in a variety of occupations.

While the town has preserved its suburban character, it is part of a metropolitan community with great advantages in terms of accessibility of health care, cultural, educational and recreational resources.  Avon is serviced by the BAT (Brockton Area Transit Authority) and the MBTA (Mass. Bay Transportation Authority), providing convenient public transit service to Brockton and Boston.  Recreational opportunities are available at D. W. Fields Park, which is partly in the town of Avon, but owned by the city of Brockton.

Avon is home to the Blanchard's Museum House and Tavern.  Blanchard’s Tavern was built in 1748, and is the only authentic operating tavern of the Colonial Period north of Williamsburg, Virginia.
